TRIPS

We have been in Montana in September 2007 and 2008 hunting for wild Sharp-tailed Grouse and Hungarian Partridge. We have had great hunts and the locals tell us to expect the same this year. Thus, we anticipate another great early season of hunting.

Some of our clients send their bird dogs to training camp for the month of September and then come hunting for a few days. This is an excellent tune-up for the 2009 hunting season.

While taking a break on a hillside in Montana, the late Ty Squires, a good friend and hunting companion said, "Hunting Sharp-tailed Grouse with good pointing dogs, on the eastern plains of Montana, is just like the first time I had sex. I knew I was going to do this again."

We stay at the ranch house with the owners who affectionately refer to their home as a bed and grub. This meticulously kept modern home is much more than a bed and grub. The hospitality is as big hearted as the Montana sky. The experience in fact turns back time.

The crp, arroyos, rolling fields of grass, and the edges of cut hay fields that we hunt are vast and daunting. This feeling is quickly alleviated when one watches the dogs inhale the country's terrain with every stride and twirl in mid-air snapping to a point. The Sharp-tailed Grouse this time of year hold for the dogs.

If this sounds like fun, please give me a call or drop me a note.

We will also hunting Bob White Quail and Blue Quail in Kansas and Oklahoma in November and December plus Mearns Quail in Arizona in January 2010.
